My work is informed by a long history of dedicated study of the Self through wisdom traditions of the East and West. My life’s work is to understand my own mind and my own existence. I continue to explore various paths including the yogic and shamanic traditions, Zen Buddhism, and depth oriented psychology. I also have an M.S. in Marriage and Family Therapy and teach the path of yoga.
In spite of my academic training as a Marriage and Family Therapist, I do not practice psychotherapy. I prefer to work as a consultant and coach. I enjoy focusing on issues of everyday life, and of the soul and spirit, rather than working with mental health diagnoses. Think of me as a wise friend, a life coach, a sounding board, an encourager, and a constructive point of view. Think of the work we do together as “healing conversations” on a shared journey---an alternative to going through life’s tempests alone. I can be the bridge between where you are and where you want to be.
I have been described as “warm and compassionate” and as having a “quiet confidence and wisdom.” I listen more than I talk, and believe that a caring, collaborative relationship can activate tremendous power toward change and transformation.
I have experience with life transitions such as new motherhood, divorce and remarriage, “the mid-life crisis,” feelings of loneliness, self-esteem issues, issues surrounding food and overeating, and existential questions of “why am I here?” and “what is this all for?” I also have experience working with parents of children with special needs to help them with stress reduction and family management.
Additionally, the transformative somatic arts of yoga and Aikido have been powerful ways for me to access the body’s wisdom, and I am happy to introduce you to these potent modalities if appropriate. I am a yoga teacher with decades of practice and hold a black belt in Aikido.
